The signing of Mykhailo Mudryk by Chelsea is, so far, the big splash in the winter market. The English club has paid 100 million euros to Shakhtar Donetsk for the winger.
The Ukrainian club is going to share the money. According to the president Rinat Leonidovich Akhmetov, part of that amount will go to help Ukraine in the war against Russia.
“First of all, I would like to thank the whole civilized world for helping Ukraine. Thanks to the Ukrainian army, the Ukrainian people and the huge support of the whole civilized world, today we can talk about Ukrainian soccer. Only together will we defeat the evil that has come to our home,” said Rinat Leonidovich Akhmetov in an official statement.
“I decided to launch the ‘Heart of Azovstal’ project to help the defenders of Mariupol and the families of the fallen soldiers, whose feat is unparalleled in modern history. Thanks to them, to their sacrifice and courage to contain the enemy in the first months of the war, we all feel today the inevitability of Ukraine’s victory,” said the head of Shakhtar Donetsk.
Psychological assistance, prosthetics…
“Today I allocate 25 million euros to help our soldiers and defenders, as well as their families. The money will be allocated for various needs: from treatment, psychological assistance and prosthetics to the execution of specific requests.
“To comply with the principles of transparency, a professional and independent team will be formed to interact with Azovstal defenders, their families, sponsoring services and volunteers,” added Rinat Leonydovich Akhmetov, concluding: “We are eternally indebted to our soldiers!”
A match against Chelsea
The president of Shakhtar Donetsk also unveiled another agreement they have reached with Chelsea for the transfer of Mudryk.
“In Ukraine there is a vicious and unjust war unleashed against us by Russia. But I am convinced that we will win. And we will play a friendly match with Chelsea at the Donbass Arena in Donetsk, Ukraine,” he said.
