Luka Modric has had a spectacular career with Real Madrid, winning countless trophies, and becoming the star of an already star-studded squad.
Now the Croatian has taken a step back to look at some of his finest moments with Los Blancos, posing with the different commemorative shirts from the games he has played for Real Madrid.
In a season that could be his last for Real Madrid, the Croatian genius talks about the moments that have marked his 11 years as a Madridista.
“Real Madrid is everything to me,” Modric said to the clubs in-house media channel. “It’s part of my life, my family and it’s a way of life.
“I’m from Croatia and I was born there, but I’ve been here for 11 years and I feel at home. I am grateful for everything I am experiencing at the best club in the history of football.”
Three Champions League titles in a row
Modric was a key component of the Real Madrid side that won three Champions League titles under Zinedine Zidane, forming a sensational midfield trio alongside Casemiro and Toni Kroos.
“With this shirt (250 games) we won the third Champions League in a row in Kiev,” Modric said. “It was impressive, and something that no team had ever done before.
“It’s a very beautiful shirt and they were unforgettable years. They were years of great success, of enjoying ourselves with our teammates, the way we played and competed.”
Modric also has the honor of breaking the Lionel Messi – Cristiano Ronaldo stranglehold on the Ballon d’Or, winning the trophy in 2018 after a sensation year with club and country.
“I like the number 300,” Modric continued. “This shirt is also special because I won the Ballon d’Or. Between the previous shirt and this one I won the Champions League.
“Then I had an incredible World Cup with Croatia and then I won the biggest individual football award. It was a dream and it’s something I will never forget. This shirt has a special place because of all this.”
Modric, Benzema and Zidane
Modric was part of a Real Madrid team which dominated European football, and after winning the Champions League in 2022, Karim Benzema went on to win the Ballon d’Or that same year.
“It’s also a special shirt for 450 games,” Modric said. “Scoring a goal at the Santiago Bernabu is very nice. I was captain in that game.
“But what I remember is that Karim [Benzema] presented his Ballon d’Or to the fans. Zidane and I were there with the trophy and we gave it to him. Then I scored the goal in the win against Sevilla and it was a perfect night.”
