Cristiano Ronaldo contradicted himself on Piers Morgan interview: ‘It’s not about money’

Cristiano Ronaldo is getting ruthlessly roasted on social media after signing a €200 million contract for the next two years with Al-Nassr from Saudi Arabia. Rumors that linked the Portuguese star to this club were running rampant with nobody believing he would actually do it. Signing this contract would mean he could contradict his past self. Just a couple of months ago, Ronaldo assured Piers Morgan during that infamous interview that he didn’t care about money. He said he wanted to continue his career playing at the highest level and still play for the national team.

Well, these statements also mirror a 2015 line from the Jonathan Ross show: “In my mind, I want to finish at the top level. I want to finish with dignity, a good club,” said Ronaldo back then. None of those statements aged well and Cristiano appeared with the Al-Nassr jersey after taking the biggest paycheck in football history. Good on him, he deserves all the money in the world. Regardless of his decision, Ronaldo will remain as one of the best players to ever step on a football pitch. Also, he has the potential to increase his official goal count in a league that doesn’t demand too much from him.

Did Ronaldo give up on his rivalry with Messi?

One of Cristiano Ronaldo’s last chances to possibly end his career on top of Leo Messi was during the last World Cup. He started the tournament with the hope he could lead Portugal to the final but the road became impossible to walk for him. Many different obstacles kept appearing in the way as he got benched by manager Fernando Santos. Such a major blow was extremely demoralizing for him. Plus, the tough year he had on a personal level didn’t help either. Everything was probably too much to bear for Ronaldo and he decided to look out for himself.

Cristiano gets a pass on this due to the difficult year he had, there is still time to regroup in Saudi Arabia and get his groove back. DEspite contradicting himself on this one, there will always remain the hope that we will someday see Ronaldo back in the UEFA Champions League scoring at least another goal. For now, let the man enjoy his holyday in Saudi Arabia and get his mind back in order.
