Christian Atsu, a former Malaga, Porto, Chelsea and Newcastle player was found alive in the rubble of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria that has caused more than 2,500 deaths, according to ‘A Bola’.
The Portuguese media claims that the Hatayspor player, who disappeared in the ruins of the earthquake in the city of Hatay, is in hospital with an injured right foot and breathing difficulties.
Search and rescue teams searched for Atsu after the 7.5-magnitude quake struck southern Turkey and Syria. Team-mates Onur Ergun and Burak Oksuz were also found, with Kerim Alici climbing out of the rubble on his own feet, according to A Bola.
However, Hatayspor‘s sporting director Taner Savut has not yet been located after also being reported missing.
The testimony of Volkan Demirel, former Fenerbahe goalkeeper and now head coach of Hatayspor, in tears, is moving.
“Help. I want to ask you to send all the resources you have. It’s not just Hatay or Antakya. Please, I beg you, for God’s sake, there are people dying here,” he pleaded.
