Barcelona FC‘s relationship with former Vice President of the Referee’s Committee Jose Mara Enrquez Negreira has been under scrutiny in recent years, with new evidence emerging in the ongoing El Caso Negreira scandal.
Negreira’s company, Dasnil 95, had a contract with Barcelona which was cancelled by former club President Josep Maria Bartomeu in 2018.
Since then, Negreira has been sending burofax to the club, with the latest one demanding continued payment from Barcelona despite the contract termination.
Tensions rise over potential benefits this season since Negreira scandal
Recently, El Mundo has uncovered new evidence that Negreira contacted Barcelona in 2020, offering his expertise in the new technology of VAR, which had been introduced two years earlier.
Negreira wrote to the club’s board, saying, “I can help you with VAR. If you are interested, contact me.”
While Barcelona did not respond to Negreira’s offer, the news has sparked fresh tensions in the ongoing case, particularly as reports have suggested that the club has benefited greatly from VAR this season.
Already facing charges of “continuous corruption” by the Spanish Justice Department, Barcelona could face further legal action if the El Caso Negreira scandal deepens.
