Luis Campos is not resting at Paris Saint-Germain. Although there are almost two months to go before the winter transfer window opens, the French club’s sporting director has already drawn up his plan of action.
The French club are currently leading Ligue 1 by five points and are set to face Bayern Munich in the Round of 16 in the Champions League.
According to Le Parisien, the club’s ambition is to reinforce the squad across all areas of the pitch. According to the French daily, PSG will make three signings: one in defence, a centre-back; another in midfield, ideally someone who can bring physicality to the team; and another in attack, a striker who can play as a target man.
The club, moreover, do not want to delay their dealings. The plan is to have everything tied up in order to be able to undertake these transfers as soon as the market opens, which is why they have already started the process of contacting the teams of the players they are interested in.
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the pivot position, with Kylian Mbappe even venting on Instagram for having to play in that position. This is another reason why PSG would like to sign an attacker who can play in that position.
“Here [with the national team] I have a lot more freedom than at PSG. The coach knows that there is a no.9 like Olivier Giroud and I can move and go into space. In Paris it’s different, they ask me to play as a pivot…”, Mbappe wrote during the season’s first international break.
Shortcomings in the Champions League
As for the reinforcement in midfield, Le Parisien reports that the reason for this addition is that some deficiencies have been detected in this area.
“It is possible that in this sector, the Champions League group stage has shown that there is a lack of an impact player, capable of disrupting the intensity of the opponent”, writes the French daily.
PSG will face a tough test in the Champions League. Christophe Galtier‘s side will have to face Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the competition.
