The Twitter exodus of workers has officially begun under Elon Musk’s watch, he is making a decision that will inevitably change the platform’s course forever. According to reports from the BBC, the tech mogul is making the decision to lay off at least half of the platform’s work force. But doing so won’t be as easy as he thought, many of these workers won’t give up without a fight. There are many actions they decided to take in order to at least get a decent severance cut or even more than that.
According to NBC News, Twitter is being sued for violating a federal law that requires at least a 60-day notice that Elon Musk did not offer any of the workers he is firing. In any country that has human rights, offering a notice period is absolutely essential. This helps the worker find a new job with a decent amount of time so they can at least land on their feet. According to reports from inside Twitter HQ, all Elon Musk offered was a memo where he told employees they were getting fired without any notice. This is a violation of labor laws.
Elon Musk blocks Twitter workers’ accounts
As a way to prevent them from spilling any information about the layoffs, Elon Musk also ordered for all the fired employees to get their work Twitter accounts blocked. Absolutely everybody is shocked by the lack of decour Elon Musk has been using to fire all that working force. Many of the communications staff has been laid off, according to one of its members who used to work in that department. They reached out to BBC News in order to give them that information.
As a result of this move from Elon Musk, several of the major advertisers have decided to remove their ads from the platform. It is estimated that Twitter is firing 3,700 of its 7,000 employees on Friday alone. Take a look at the full letter all Twitter employees got on their company email account:
