Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has revealed that he had to undergo three skin cancer surgeries.
The medical news had not been allowed to leave the club but in the last three Bundesliga and Champions League games, the goalkeeper has not been able to play for his team due to an acromioclavicular haematoma injury which is not related to the skin issue.
The skin cancer news was recently revealed by the goalkeeper in a press release on the occasion of the launch of his own brand of sun protection and skin care products ‘Newkee’, which he has created together with the tennis player Angelique Kerber.
“We both have very personal stories when it comes to skin conditions. For Angelique it is sun-induced hyperpigmentation and, in my case, skin cancer on my face, for which I had to have three surgeries,” Neuer confirmed in a press release.
The aim of both athletes is to call for precautions to be taken when we are exposed to the sun, setting themselves as two clear examples.
“We can’t compromise when it comes to sun protection. I not only train outdoors all day, but I also like to be out in nature when I have the time,” admits the goalkeeper who, among other things, is aiming to regain German glory at a World Cup after winning it at Brazil 2014.
