An exit during the January transfer window is the most likely scenario, with Argentine side Argentinos Juniors throwing their name in the mix to land his signature.
The team recently secured their spot in the next edition of the Copa Libertadores, and to celebrate, they’ve started a Twitter campaign to try and convince Cristiano Ronaldo to leave England and play for them.
A joke gone viral
It all started as a simple joke when the club began to celebrate qualifying for the 2023 Copa Libertadores. However, it quickly went viral.
As a result, club president Cristian Malaspina joined the campaign via his own personal Twitter profile: “Come on Cristiano, there is no money that equals playing in the Militoneta; neither the pastas of Chichilo, nor the pizzas of the old oven, nor the empanadas of La Farra. The Libertadores with El Bicho is at your fingertips. Call me”.
How did the campaign start?
Although the origin of the campaign isn’t clear, all signs point to Argentinos fans themselves starting the movement on Twitter. Many have encouraged the Portuguese striker to win the Copa Libertadores, a title that Lionel Messi has never been able to win.
The Argentine team is keen to have the success that Nacional had in signing Luis Suarez. That also started as a joke on social media, but it went so viral that it convinced the Uruguayan player to return to the club.
