Wesley Fofana is on the verge of becoming a new Chelsea player, with the Blues set to spend big to sign the defender from fellow Premier League side Leicester City.
The centre-back’s future has been up in the air for a while, though it has recently become clear that he would leave the Foxes this summer.
Now, as per Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are set to open an enormous sum of around 88 million dollars to sign him. That fee includes all bonuses.
After weeks of talks, the Foxes have finally given in to Chelsea‘s persistence, with the offer currently on the table seen as one that is too good to turn down.
With the move’s completion, Fofana will become the third most-expensive defender in history. Ahead of him will be Virgil van Dijk after his move from Southampton to Liverpool, and Harry Maguire after he also left Leicester but to join Manchester United.
Exiled from the first team at Leicester
Fofana has been training with the under-23 team at Leicester of late, with his exit being all but confirmed for a while.
“He’s a good guy, he’s working with the under-23s to stay in shape,” insisted coach Brendan Rodgers.
“It’s been a challenging situation for him.”
