Chelsea were among the front runners to sign Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, but Thomas Tuchel opted against the move.
The Portuguese forward is eager to leave Manchester United after the club failed to make it into the Champions League.
While numerous clubs have had to publicly state their disinterest in the veteran forward, like Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund among others, Chelsea had been weighing up a transfer throughout the summer.
However, it turns out that Tuchel decided against signing Ronaldo based on a conversation he had with Ralf Rangnick who was in charge of the Red Devils last season.
According to the Times, new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly was keen on signing Ronaldo and saw him as the ideal player to lead their weak attack.
Yet Tuchel, being close friends with Rangnick, took his advice that he would not fit into Chelsea’s setup due to his disinterest in pressing the opposition.
Ten Hag wants to keep Ronaldo
Meanwhile, new United coach Erik ten Hag insists he wants to keep Ronaldo at the club for this season, despite dropping him once again in the recent 1-0 win over Southampton.
“We plan with him (Ronaldo), so we want him to stay. That is what we want,” the Dutchman stated.
