David Benavidez continues to constantly harass Canelo Alvarez in the hope of luring the Mexican boxer into a fight. This time, he attacked him for his words after the fight against Gennady Golovkin.
Benavidez claimed that he is getting into Canelo‘s head after the boxer mentioned it during his post-GGG fight press conference.
“I know it’s getting to his head, he’s mad about that,” Benavidez stated to LalosBoxing.
“I’ve earned my spot. I’ve been the number one fighter with the WBC for four fights now. I just want to be given the they promised me,”
Canelo talked about Benavidez after his fight with GGG
After his fight against Gennady Golovkin, Canelo Alvarez talked about other Mexican fighters who wanted to step into the ring with him.
During the press conference, a reporter asked him if he didn’t want to face up-and-coming Mexican fighters, after it was reported that Canelo wasn’t interested in fighting Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez just because of his nationality.
“Why do you think I don’t want to fight a Mexican fighter or Benavidez? I hear his father talk a lot of shit, but let’s see, he hasn’t done anything. Only one champion (beat him), Anthony Dirrell. Please don’t disrespect me,” Canelo said in his post-fight media conference.
Benavidez could have been promised a fight with Canelo
David Benavidez says he doesn’t know who his next opponent will be, but that Mauricio Sulaiman, the WBC president, told him the body could order Canelo to face him in the near future as a mandatory.
“They said, win this WBC title eliminator and you’ll fight Canelo next, I would fight Canelo soon,” he confirmed.
“What do you think the ranking system is for?”
Canelo will undergo surgery to overcome a discomfort in his left hand and said his return to the ring could be between May and September next year.
