Nottingham Forest have been incredibly busy behind the scenes bringing new players to the club throughout the summer transfer window.
The summer window is set to close on Thursday, leaving only a handful of days left for Steve Cooper to potentially add more players to his squad.
If the Forest boss wants to end this hectic period of transfer activity with a bang, one player that would certainly help them do that is Olympique Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.
The Frenchman has been linked with a move for the majority of the window and according to reports over the weekend, he has been waiting for two weeks for a deal to be agreed upon after settling on personal terms.
He would add a great deal to this side and considering he’s been linked with the likes of Arsenal before, it could be their most impressive addition yet, luring someone to the club who has been courted by the elite.
Having made 243 appearances for the French club across their senior and youth sides, the 24-year-old has scored 47 goals and delivered 36 assists in the process, demonstrating that he’d be a strong offensive threat for Forest.
Clearly a very capable attacking midfielder, he’d offer the ability to pass players with ease as well, offering exciting dynamism from the centre of the pitch. Indeed, Aouar topped Lyon’s list for successful dribbles (75) alongside Lucas Paqueta, as well as making more carries into the final third of the pitch (77).
Would you be happy if Forest signed Houssem Aouar?
Only four clubs have fewer shot-creating actions than Forest (68) in the Premier League so far this season, so adding a player like the Lyon star, who has experience of playing in Europe, to Cooper’s squad could be just what they need to make them a deadlier side in front of goal.
A glistening review from journalist Adam White should further add to the hype around any potential deal. He once told Football FanCast:
“He has silky movement and drifts in midfield to pick passes. At his best, he is absolutely brilliant to watch and he can play anywhere in midfield.
“He’s great on the ball and technically outstanding. His vision is brilliant. He’s a huge talent.”
With all of this in mind, if Forest can secure a late deal for the 24-year-old, this could arguably be their most exciting signing of the summer.
He is a classy player who looked to be heading for even greater pastures than Forest a year ago. For that reason alone, it would be a seismic coup for Cooper and co.
