The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday at Paycor Stadium with kicker Evan McPherson drilling three field goals in the first half of the final NFL preseason game.
McPherson, 23, only missed one field goal attempt throughout the entire preseason, going 9-for-10 over three games.
He went 3-for-3 against the Rams, leading Cincy to a nine-point lead at the break.
After a scoreless third quarter, the visitors cut the dificit to two with a touchdown and an extra point.
Bengals would go on to win by nine points with the team’s only TD of the night, which came down the stretch of the fourth quarter.
McPherson obviously hit the extra point, contributing on 10 of his side’s 16 points.
For the Rams, Bryce Perkins played the entire game at QB and threw for 143 yards on 14-for-19 completions.
Perkins, 25, also rushed for the only Rams touchdown of the night to get within two in the opening moments of the closing stanza.
Bengals QB Brandon Allen led two drives into field goal range for McPherson to hit before getting replaced by Jake Browning with four minutes left in the second quarter.
Both Allen and Browning played well, respectively recording 130 and 173 yards, and with the latter throwing the TD pass in the final frame to secure the win.
Rams head coach Sean McVay decided not to attempt a comeback and let the clock wind down as his team starts to prepare for the season opener.
The Rams will take on the Buffalo Bills to kick off the 2022 NFL season at SoFi Stadium on September 8.
Bengals, meanwhile, will begin its defense of the AFC crown September 11 at home against against AFC North rivals Pittsburgh Steelers.
