Two sides who find themselves seeking some kind of boost, DC United will welcome the New York Red Bulls to Audi Field in the early hours of Sunday.
Starting with the hosts, while DC United might have managed to find a much-needed boost last weekend thanks to a 2-1 win at home against Orlando, Wayne Rooney’s men immediately came crashing back down to earth. Last seen earlier in the week putting in a nightmare display away at Charlotte as they were hit with a 3-0 drumming, the ex-Manchester United skipper finds his side sat rock-bottom of the Eastern Conference table. Dealing with a string of public issues at Audi Field, the Washington-based outfit have also gained a reputation for their extended problems at the back. With their recent woeful run of form underlined by an infamous 7-0 defeat against Philadelphia on July 8th, DC have now failed to record a single clean sheet since the start of May. Likewise, it should also be highlighted, Sunday’s hosts have seen seven of their last eight domestic matchups finish with over 2.5 goals.
As for the visitors, although New York might still find themselves leading the chase for a Final Series spot this season, Gerhard Struber’s men are also in the midst of a worrying rut. Last seen earlier in the week eventually getting hit with a remarkable 5-4 loss at home against Colorado, the one-time Barnsley boss does have some growing pressure on his shoulders. Likewise, suffering a stunning 5-1 hammering away at Orlando last weekend, the Red Bulls have now shipped 10 goals in their back-to-back MLS losses. Likewise, after losing three of their last four domestic contests, New York have also conceded 14 strikes on that four-match run. With both of Sunday’s opponents showing some rather glaring problems at the back, we could be in for another lively affair here. With the last two meetings between DC and New York producing eight goals, we’re backing an enjoyable affair at Audi Field.
