Celtic must secure Edouard Michut transfer

Celtic have had another busy summer transfer window in terms of the number of players who have come to or left Parkhead.

One player that the Hoops have brought in throughout the current transfer period is midfielder Aaron Mooy. The Premiership champions signed the Australian as a free agent following his exit from Chinese club Shanghai Port earlier this year.

With 44 goals and 40 assists to his name across 320 senior club appearances throughout his career, the 31-year-old can offer Ange Postecoglou’s side a wealth of experience and an occasional threat in front of goal.

However, his age currently makes him the oldest outfield player in Celtic’s squad, which means that he may not be at the club for a particularly lengthy amount of time.

With that in mind, the remaining weeks of the transfer window could give the Hoops the chance to bring in someone who could be seen as the next version of the Australian.

One player with whom the Bhoys have been linked and who could fit the criteria is Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Edouard Michut.

At the age of just 19, the midfielder has eight senior appearances to his name for the French champions, which shows how highly he is rated at the club. In that time, the youngster has been able to provide one assist, which came during PSG’s 1-1 draw against Lyon last season.

This highlights how useful he can be in front of goal, in a similar way to Mooy, and why Postecoglou would love to have a young talent like him in his squad.

Would Edouard Michut be a good signing for Celtic?

However, there has been one occasion where the midfielder let his team down after he got himself sent off for what Robin Bairner described as a “nasty” challenge on Angers’ Romain Thomas in April.

This shows just how much learning and developing he still has to do and why lining up alongside an experienced player like Mooy could be beneficial for the French prodigy.

Bearing in mind how the current Celtic midfielder has only received one red card throughout his lengthy club career, this is an area where the veteran can help to guide Michut through matches to avoid getting sent off.

Should Celtic pay the reported £5m that PSG want for their young midfielder, this could be a great long-term investment for the club and alleviate any concerns they may have about Mooy’s availability or the length of time he stays at Parkhead.
